2008-11-22  Parcel Delays at Sorting Office

Royal Mail bosses have reported a backlog of "a small number of parcels" at their Garforth delivery office because of workload pressures and have offered apologies to affected customers. 

 

2008-11-21  New Business Club in Garforth

The first meeting of a new Business Lunch Club in Garforth takes place on Wednesday, 3rd December from 1-3pm at La Bella Vita restaurant in the town. It has been organised by Godloves Solicitors and costs 15 pounds. Email mbrookes@godloves.co.uk or ring (0113) 2868822 for more details.  

 

2008-11-19  Curtain Up in Garforth and Kippax

Garforth Amateur Dramatic Society's production "It's Never Too Late" by Ron Aldridge, opens tonight at the Miners Welfare Hall 7.30pm and runs until Saturday 22nd November. On the same dates, Kippax Dramatic Society are performing Alan Ayckbourn's play "Season's Greetings" at St Mary's Church Hall, Kippax.  

 

2008-11-18  Top Honour for Garforth Lion

Garforth Lions member Robin Tomlinson has received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award in recognition of his commitment to humanitarian works. The award was presented to him by Lions President Mark Dobson at the club’s 36th annual charter dinner.  

 

2008-11-17  MP Speaks Out Against Council House Shake Up

Colin Burgon was one of two Leeds MPs speaking out against a government green paper proposing that council tenants should be encouraged to move out of council houses into the private sector. The proposal is aimed at reducing council house waiting lists. But the two MPs see it as a recipe for creating ghettos for the really poor and support building more social housing to reduce waiting lists.  

 

2008-11-15  Garforth Woman Thanks Hospice

Garforth Woman Lynda Barden is holding a fundraiser at her home for St Gemmas Hospice, to thank them for the care they provided for her husband. The event, for family, friends and work colleagues takes place on the anniversary of his passing and hopes to raise one thousand pounds.  

 

2008-11-14  Sponsored Walk for Angioma Charity

Garforth mum Joanne Smith has organised a 5 mile sponsored walk on Sunday in aid of the Angioma Alliance. Forty people have already signed up for the walk but others are welcome. The walk leaves the Garforth Leisure Centre at 10.30 am  

 

2008-11-13  Leeds Coroners Appeal for Relatives of Garforth Man

Leeds Coroners are appealing for the relatives a Garforth man to come forward. Mr Peter Mitchell, 85, of St Armonds Court in Garforth, died at St James' Hospital, on the 11 November 2008. He had died of natural causes. Any relatives of Mr Mitchell are asked to contact the Leeds Coroner's office on 0113 397 0603. 

 

2008-11-13  Car Park Hitch at Garforth Town

Garforth Town have finally received approval to proceed with the car park extension at their Brierlands ground. However it has emerged that a higher specification is required to improve car parking at the front of the club than had previously been considered and the cost has risen to £80,000. The club has asked the council whether the £18,000 previously allocated from the Area Committee Capital Well Being Budget could alternatively be used to provide parking to the side and rear of the club. 

 

2008-11-11  MP Opens School Library

MP Colin Burgon officially opened a new library at East Garforth Primary School. The library was funded by a five thousand pound donation from the school's parent and teacher association.
