Garforth and District Lions annual grocery collection for Christmas hampers takes place at the Coop Kippax on 5th ,6th December and at Tesco Garforth on 11th,12th 13th December. The Lions will be collecting cans to make up Christmas food parcels to distribute to those in need in our community. |

2008-11-16 Kippax Fundraiser Dies |
Ron Bolton, aged 81, who raised more than £100,000 for multiple sclerosis charities has died after a short illness. Ron began raising cash for MS groups in 1976 and was given an award by the Multiple Sclerosis Society ten years ago. He also raised thousands of pounds for Children in Need.

2008-11-07 Local Politicians Speak Out Against Tetley Closure |
Kippax councillor Keith Wakefield called on Carlsberg to reverse their decision to close the Tetley brewery and emphasised that top priority must be to protect the jobs of every worker in our city. MP Colin Burgon questioned the motive for closing the Leeds site, saying that the sale of the land site by the river will be very profitable for the company. |

2008-11-05 Councillor Speak Out Against Council Taxi Bills |
Councillor Wakefield has spoken out against the 4.2 million pound bill run up in 2007-8 for taxiing children to schools around the region. Taxis are used to take special needs children, kids in council care and youngsters in remote areas to school when public transport is deemed unsafe or inadequate. |

Staff from Arla Foods completed a sponsored bike ride alongside the Leeds Liverpool canal to raise five thousand pounds to support Lifeskills students at Brigshaw school. Lifeskills is a group of students with special education needs. |

2008-10-31 Meetings Scheduled to Discuss Sports Centre Plans |
The council are holding consultation meetings to allow residents to air their views on the proposed changes to sports centres in the area. These meetings take place at Kippax Leisure Centre on 4th November 4-6pm and at Garforth Leisure Centre on 13th November 7-9pm

The Parks and Countryside service are trimming hedgerows at Townclose Hill nature reserve in Kippax from 10am till 3pm on Saturday and are appealing for helpers. If you are interested meet in the carpark of Kippax Leisure Centre. |

2008-10-30 Councillor in Westminster for Credit Crunch Talks |
Councillor Wakefield was one of an all-party delegation of Leeds councillors meeting the Minister for Yorkshire at Westminster yesterday to try to ensure that the city gets its share of the investment opportunities announced by the Government to overcome the downturn. The Treasury announced plans to spend on large building projects such as housing and schools. Bringing some of this investment to Leeds will help protect jobs. |
