2010-06-06 Brave Jack Returns to School Friends |
Staff and pupils at Micklefield Primary school held a sponsored sleepover in aid of the Child Brain Injury Trust after one of the children, ten year old Jack Craven, underwent a four hour operation to have a brain tumour removed. He was diagnosed after suffering a series of headaches and undergoing an investigatory scan at Leeds General Infirmary. Jack is now back at school.

Police are continuing patrols in the A1/M area of Micklefield following complaints from residents about nuisance motorcycles.

2010-04-17 Police Catch Suspicious Vehicle |
Following numerous calls to police regarding a Landrover Defender 90 seen in suspicious circumstances in and around the area, officers from the NPT, Response, Roads Policing and Farmwatch Members joined in the hunt for this vehicle which was eventually caught on land near to Micklefield. Following enquires the driver was reported for driving offences, the vehicle seized for having no insurance and her Majesty`s Revenue and Customs will be issuing a large fine for running the vehicle on Red Diesel.

2010-04-14 Grants for Local Groups |
Caird Bardon operate the landfill site at Peckfield and run a 250 thousand pounds a year Community Programme providing grants of between £5,000 and £60,000 to fund community and environmental projects located in Leeds Metropolitan District Wards. There are two funding rounds each year. The current round closes on 24th May at noon. Decisions on applications will be made by the end of August. The Caird Bardon Community Programme uses an online application process. Online applications to each funding round must be submitted to GrantScape between the opening and closing dates stated above. Applications received after a closing date will be automatically submitted to the next funding round, if available.

2010-03-07 Man Mugged at Micklefield Station |
A man was mugged by a teenage gang at Micklefield railway station around 8pm on Saturday 27th February. The 20 year old victim was punched about the head and his wallet and phone were taken. Police are looking for a thin, white youth with blond cropped hair, wearing dark jeans, a hooded top and white trainers. He had a stud in his ear. 2010-02-22 Public Enquiry Over Wind Farm |
The Planning Inspectorate has decided that the appeal by Banks Renewables against Leeds City Council’s decision to refuse planning permission for the proposed wind farm near Hook Moor, will be decided through the public inquiry procedure. At present no details are known about when and where the appeal will be heard.

The Police And Communities Together (Pact) Meeting at Micklefield on Monday 8th February 2010 will now be held at Micklefield School instead of the Fire Station.

2010-02-04 Wind Farm Appeal Launched |
Banks Developments have launched an appeal against the council’s decision to reject plans for a wind farm at Hook Moor Micklefield. The application was rejected following when the Ministry of Defence objected because the turbines interfere with radar equipment at nearby RAF airfields.

2010-02-01 Peckfield Grant Scheme Rules Change |
Caird Bardon Limited, which runs the landfill site at Peckfield and operates a funding programme that makes up to £250,000 available each year to community projects has announced that the scheme is now restricted to wards within Leeds Metropolitan District. Until recently the scheme had been open to all communities local to the landfill site and therefore included villages in nearby North Yorkshire

2010-01-31 Badger Set Dug Up |
Police and the Force Wildlife Officer have been investigating a recently dug badger set in the Micklefield area. It is illegal to kill or injure a badger, or dig upon a badger set and carries a fine of up to £5,000 and a six-month prison sentence. The perpetrators are suspected of also being responsible for Lamping in the area. Lamping is the act of hunting at night using powerful lamps and either guns or dogs. Police are asking members of the public to report anything out of the ordinary and be vigilant.
