2010-06-21  Monk Fryston History Weekend Success

A Monk Fryston History exhibition held in St Wilfrid’s Church and Church Hall, and organised jointly by Monk Fryston Time Team, Church community and Community Association has been declared a tremendous success. Visitors on Saturday and Sunday enjoyed the Time Team’s growing collection of maps, illustrated commentaries and the newly created Monk Fryston Heritage Trail Guide. The highlight of the weekend was the unveiling of the new Roll of Honour in St Wilfrid’s Church by Rev John Hetherington  

 

2010-06-19  Monk Fryston and Hillam Fayre

Monk Fryston and Hillam village fayre takes place on Sunday 20th june from 1 PM to 5 PM at Monk Fryston school and community centre. The day’s events include stalls, displays, games, vintage and classic cars, competitions, a children’s entertainer, a BBQ and a bar admission is £1 perperson or £2.50 for a family of four.  

 

2010-06-16  Change of Land Use Plan at Monk Fryston

A planning application for the change of use of land on Lowfield Lane, Monk Fryston from agriculture to showmen’s quarters has been submitted to Selby District Council. The plans are to accommodate over 30 caravans, with storage for other equipment. Showmen attend fairs around the country, and their equipment includes fairground rides and other facilities such as fast food stands.  

 

2010-05-11  Host Families Needed for Chernobyl Children

Could you host two children from Belarus for two weeks in your home this summer? New host families are needed to give children a respite holiday from the radiation. The children's visit has a fun packed activity schedule enjoyed by both the Chernobyl children and their English Families. 2010-05-07  New Roll of Honour at St Wilfrids

St Wilfrids Church Monk Fryston is to have a Roll of Honour to commemorate those who died in the two World Wars. This will be mounted on the north wall inside the Church and will compliment the Parish War Memorial which sits in the Church grounds by the north entrance. Work has been carried out by the Hillam Historians to ensure that the Roll of Honour is an accurate record of all those from within the Parish including Monk Fryston, Hillam and Burton Salmon, who died during the two World Wars.  

 

2010-02-26  Monk Fryston Hall Wedding Fayre

Monk Fryston Hall is holding an open day on 4th March for couples, their parents, bridesmaids and anyone else looking for a wedding venue. A selection of professional service providers will also be in attendance to advise on all aspects of ensuring a great wedding day. The event runs from 6 to 9pm, admission is free.  

 

2009-11-06  Bonfire Bus Service Announced

There will be a free bus service from Monk Fryston to South Milford bonfire. The route will be as follows:- starts 1730 through 1850 at approximately 15 minute intervals commencing at the Cross Keys Hillam with pick up points at Monk Fryston School, Crown Hotel Monk Fryston, Moor Lane Sherburn at the end of Pasture Way, the Fish Shop Wolsey Parade Sherburn and the bus stop at the bottom of New Lane. "Drop Off" point is the Swan South Milford. The return service will commence from the Swan at approximately 2030hrs, the last bus will be at 2200.  

 

2009-10-25  Parking Dispute Solution Agreed

A 10 year dispute over people parking all day outside Monk Fryston Post Office could finally be over following a North Yorkshire County Council Selby Area committee proposal to introduce a 20 minute parking restriction. Once a parking restriction order is in place the police will be able to move people on or prosecute them.  

 

2009-10-16  Jockey Tries to Overturn Ban

Jockey Dean McKeown from Monk Fryston is trying to overturn a 4 year ban for corruption. McKeown was found guilty last October of conspiracy and breaching rules of racing. He is appealing to the High Court and the hearing is expected to last 3 days  

 

2009-04-28  Monk Fryston’s Shop Up for Sale

The post office and general store in Monk Fryston has been put up for sale. Its current owners, who have run the shop for 12 years are planning to retire.
